The zirconium crown is an all-ceramic dental coating system produced from zirconium dioxide, a high-strength ceramic that contains no metal framework. The most important difference from traditional metal-backed porcelain crowns is that because they contain no metal, there is no dark halo or metallic sheen at the gum line. This characteristic gives an extremely natural appearance, especially on the front teeth and areas exposed to light. It is safe to use on both front and back teeth.
The zirconium material is biocompatible; That is to say, it is not perceived by the body as a foreign body. This characteristic is important for gum health: the risk of blackening or recession of the gums, which sometimes accompanies metal crowns, is significantly less in zirconium. It is also resistant to heat and chemical effects. Zirconium crowns can be maintained with daily brushing and flossing, just like natural teeth. Since plaque buildup at the edge of the crown can cause gum problems, care must be taken to clean this area. A professional check-up at least twice a year is recommended to detect possible problems at an early stage. If there is a habit of grinding your teeth, the use of night guards is important.
06 Should the nerve of the tooth be removed for a zirconium crown?
No, zirconium crowns can also be applied to living teeth (with nerves). Root canal treatment is only necessary if the tooth has significant decay, advanced damage, or infection; This decision is not determined by the crown, but by the condition of the tooth itself.
